Ola I Ka Wai Project
Mahealani and I did our Ola I ka Wai project on my ahupua'a of Waiahole. This ahupua'a is famous for the large lawsuit filed against corporations such as 'O'ahu Sugar Company and many other big corporations that contributed to the Waiahole.
Huakaʻi ma Hamama Falls
Before: I am very excited to see how the area has changed since the last time I had been there. I wonder what new plants have grown and if there are still mountain apples that fall that are edible. I am also very excited to be able to go into a water tunnel and see what it looks like.
During: My group and I first started in the water tunnel. Our guide was a person from the Board of Water Supply and he was very knowledgeable about the things that were going on in that certain area. It was really interesting to see someone have so much ʻike about watersheds, water tunnels, dike walls, bulk heads and much more. While walking in the tunnel, we had to be very silent. Every movement, every breath and every sound echoed of the walls of the tunnel. If someone would trip and fall, the tunnel would be like a sound enhancer. After a while in the tunnel it gave me a headache due to the many sounds happening at the same time.
