Today in class we were surprised with the tasks of building the highest marshmallow tower with raw spaghetti sticks. This may seem like an ordinary task, but it was really hard to figure out a base and structural supporting of the marshmallow weight on top of it all was quite difficult. Our marshmallow kept breaking the spaghetti sticks and by the end, our marshmallow was on the table. We couldn't get it higher than the other teams. It was a great way to see if our team could work together to build the highest structure.

Today was our senior picnic. Nothing too special, just 430 high school students heading to Sherwoods Beach Park. Throughout the day I kilo-ed (observed) and I noticed there was not much rubbish being produced by the students. Until lunch came, they gave us paper plates and plastic forks. I know this is understandable as it is a beach situtation, but 430 people to feed which equals 430 paper plates, 430 plastic forks. I was wondering the ways we could have cut down waste because that was just ridiculous.
Today we had a guest speaker in class. She is the Sustainability Manager for Kamehameha Schools. She basically deals with the use of water, how much food waste we produce, and how much electricity our school uses. Her job is much harder than that but that is my summarization of what she does. She came to talk to us today to try and give us some ideas for our projects. For example the restoration of the streams flowing on campus, the deduction of water usage, and much more. After she came in to talk to us my mind is now running with ideas!
Today we all met in class and I talked amongst my peers and I noticed a lot of them were doing trash related subjects. I would love to try and see where I could also help and work with some of the groups to see if we can collaborate and help each other out with this project. There are also a lot of other problems on campus and I am trying to look into seeing what can be done other than trash.
Today was our first introduction of this project. To find a problem on campus an try and fix it. One big thing came to mind when I heard about this project, TRASH. Trash is such a huge problem on this campus, with people just not throwing away their things to the trash cans outside of Akahi. My goal is to find some way to minimize trash and disposable things on campus.
